Union Meeting Location Changed
Our next union meeting is June 12th and State President Chad Major and Chief Murray will be in attendance.  We will be discussing contract issues so please attend and give your input.  Our union meeting will be taking place at the IBEW Meeting Hall, 3000 Highway 90 East (next to the GMC dealership/ O.D. MDA Boot Drive

Local 561, in conjunction with LCFD and the City of Lake Charles, is gearing up for our annual Boot Drive.  Last year we raised over $8,000.00 and we look forward to surpassing that mark this year.  After dates are approved by city counsel we will post the information for everyone to see.

Governor Vetoes House Bill 988

For those of you who haven't heard, Governor Jindal has vetoed HB988 (5yr DROP). He had no problem with the portion of the bill pertaining to us, but with the amendment increasing retirement benefits for certain employees in Paroles and Probations. He doesn't even mention us in his Veto Message.

5 Year Drop

HB988, our five year drop bill has passed all the way through the process.  It was amended on the senate floor Friday and returned to the house for concurrence.  This afternoon the house vote unanimously to concurr with the amended bill.  The amendment does not affect our portion of the bill.  It pertains to the probation and parole officers pension.

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Memorial Day house fire trapped a pregnant woman and her 2-year-old son in a bedroom. The Lake Charles Fire Department rescued them, but it wasn't easy. The dangers of carbon monoxide

Medicine Hat Firefighters are urging the public to check their carbon monoxide detectors as temperatures drop and furnaces start kicking in. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that is created when fuels combust. It can come from your furnace, your hot water tank, your fireplace or vehicles in your garage.

Has a firefighter, we are required to wear many hats as part of the job. Firefighter, EMT, a public educator, a car seat installer, just to name a few. Occasionally, earn get to earn a different hat to hang on our peg. For a few guys of Local 168, they can add elephant washer to their hats.  A circus was in town and they were in need of the local fire department to help was the elephants.
Dinner at Ronald McDonald House

On 9-27-14 a group of Local 274 members prepared dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House at Westchester Medical Center.  The families were able to come back from visiting their sick/injured loved ones at the Maria Ferreri Childrens Hospital, to find an amazing dinner consisting of Salad, Penne a la Vodka, Chicken Marsala, Penne Pomodoro, and Deserts.
